Why Remain Catholic?

Even as leaders in the Church fail morally, the Catholic Church remains the mystical body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, and she’s worth fighting for.

A couple of years ago when the Church was heavily dealing with the sexual abuse crisis, Bishop Barron posted a video about why it is important that we remain Catholic even when there’s so much scandal. This video will always be relevant and important, so I wanted to highlight a key point that he made to remind us all why we are Catholic and why we should remain Catholic.

We are not Catholics because of the moral excellence of our leaders. We want and expect them to be morally excellent but we’re Catholics because of these reasons:

  • Jesus Christ, crucified and risen from the dead.
  • Trinitarian love of God
  • Mystical Body of Christ
  • Sacraments
  • Eucharist
  • Blessed Mother

Even as leaders in the Church fail morally, the Catholic Church remains the mystical body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, and she’s worth fighting for. How do we fight? Through our own righteous anger, by writing a letter to our Bishops or to the Pope, and by our very presence at Mass. We fight any way we can but we fight because we believe in the Church that we love.
