Saint Carlo Acutis
(TBD in 2025)
Feast Day: October 12
Carlo Acutis was born on May 3, 1991, in London, England. He grew up like a child of the current generations with video games and the internet. Along with keeping up with his studies at school and chores at home, Carlo managed to find time to teach catechism to children preparing for their First Communion and Confirmation; to volunteer at the soup kitchen run by the Capuchins and the Sisters of Mother Teresa; to help the poor living in his neighborhood; to assist children struggling with their homework; to do apostolic work via the internet; to play the saxophone; to play soccer; to design programs on the computer; to have fun with video games; to watch police movies; and to make videos with his pets.
On October 2, 2006, Carlo fell ill and was initially thought to have the flu. A few days later, Carlo’s condition became much worse, and he was taken to the De Marchi clinic in Milan, where he was diagnosed with M3 acute leukemia. “To always be united with Jesus, this is my life plan,” he wrote when he was only seven years old. He remained faithful to this plan until his departure for Heaven, which occurred on October 12, 2006, at the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza.
Whether sitting in school, at the pizzeria with friends, in the square for a soccer match, or using the computer, it all became a lived Gospel. Carlo was able, in an extraordinary way, despite living an ordinary life like many others, to dedicate his life, moment by moment, to the highest purpose to which all humans are called: eternal bliss with God. Carlo lived this strong presence of the divine in his earthly life and sought in every way to generously share it with others.

Word On Fire
Carlo Acutis, the First Millennial Saint
Aug 5, 2024 — I write these words on vacation in the beautiful Italian town of Assisi, home to Saints Francis and Clare, whose tombs are a mere ten-minute walk from where I am staying. Yet even closer to me, about five minutes on foot, is the presence of another blessed whose remains rest in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. I speak of Carlo Acutis—a young Italian boy who died at the age of fifteen from leukemia…
